Havasupai

We had the best Jensen adventure yet on our Spring Break road trip.  it was amazing - I kept telling Sverre when he was planning our trip that it was either going to be a total disaster or really amazing, with weather, a 10 mile hike out of Havasupai with little kids, camping 10 miles away from any civilization if we had an emergency, etc. etc.  But the spring break stars were aligned and our kids were total troopers

It is a 10 mile hike down into Havasupai Canyon, so it was a stretch for 5 little kids, plus all our gear -we last minute decided to helicopter in and then hike out, which, as you can see, that kids were all for

 first helicopter ride for all of us

 lunch at the Supai Cafe -Once you get down into the canyon, there is a small Native American village where they have a little cafe, a little store and a little church - then the camping spot is a 2.5 hike down the canyon

 Sverre was making fun of my choice of hiking clothing - Sierra in her Halloween pajamas, I'm in....pink Velor pants, and Tait was wearing his un-PC cowboys and indians pjs in the middle of a Native American village....and we all know how that battle ended.  next time, no cowboy pjs i guess

Will gets major kudos for being the best camping baby ever.  He just played in the dirt all day long and hung out in his backpack.  love him

 We played in these pools for the day

 thank goodness i bought Old Maid cards at the dollar store  - my kids thought that game was the best thing ever and laughed their heads off at whoever got stuck with the old lady

 Starting the long hike out - complete with healthy, energizing hiking snacks - whatever made them happy, they had no idea what was ahead of them...

 The hike out took 6-7 hours, we were really surprised how well the kids did - the last 1.5 miles are straight uphill to get out of the canyon.  We bribed them with anything we could think of.... money, not one, but TWO snacks at the gas station and a hotel to sleep in that night instead of camping.  The bribes totally worked because our kids made it the whole way - nice.
